Here are some skills that are introduced in E.C.E. that you could be working on at home:
MATH Recognizing the basic shapes: square, circle, oval, rhombus, triangle, rectangle Counting to 20 without hesitations or missed numbers Counting backwards from 12 Counting on from various numbers Skip counting the tens Matching numerals with their quantities Practicing more vs less Sorting (by color, by size, and other traits) Identification of patterns (in clothes, on signs, etc.)
LITERACY Naming letters, uppercase and lowercase Matching uppercase with corresponding lowercase letters Identifying sounds of letters Book knowledge/Concepts of print (directionality, page turning, front cover, spine of book, pointing to text) Name writing – full name, first and last, with uppercase letter only in the front Memorization of address and at least one guardian’s phone number Pointing out rhyming words when heard or creating rhyming word lists
MOTOR SKILLS Balancing Skipping Hopping on one foot Holding writing and drawing utensils (of various sizes) correctly (See our Resources page for ideas to develop fine motor skills) Kicking/Catching/Throwing a ball Placing clothes on correctly; zipping, snapping, buttoning Using scissors/tape/glue correctly
